I think by now you will know most of the events on our journey towards Holland on Friday.

We set off at 7.00am on Friday with the radio tuned to Traffic Information. Almost immediately we knew that there were accidents on the M20 about 20 miles from Folkestone causing long delays but we assumed that they would be cleared up by the time we reached that area 3 or 4 hours later.

We had a great journey apart from a few heavy snow showers until we'd crossed the River Thames - then it was stop-start for miles and miles (more stop than start).  By now they were saying that the M20 was closed at junction 8  and the forecast delays got progressively worse. We were at a total standstill for ages.  After 5 hours on the road and the news that Kent was at a virtual standstill plus the promise on the radio of further delays in excess of 3 hours we took the decision to return home.  At this stage we'd been at a standstill at junction 7 for ages and black ice covered all 3 lanes.  We knew that the M20 was closed between 8 and 9 and the radio kept advising anyone on M20 to abort their journey.  We then had an horrendous journey home with accidents and breakdowns littering the roads and causing chaos including one hour on the M25 at a complete standstill, engine switched off, in single-lane roadworks behind broken down vehicle, Just a nightmare day. Eventually we got home just after 6.00pm.  Incidentally, we heard yesterday afternoon (Saturday) that the M20 was STILL closed at junction 8.

In the light of what's happened with the Channel Tunnel over the weekend we reckon we did the right thing although we were totally gutted at the time and we're really sorry that we've let you down.

We've since had a lovely floral gift from the DOS which is really appreciated.  As I say, we're just so sorry that we couldn't make it for the Show.  Our thanks to everyone for their understanding and especially to Peter and the others involved plus additional judges and stewards for the hard work and effort they must have put in to ensure that the Show went ahead.  We both hope it was a success.

We hope that all our friends in Holland and Belgium have a Vrolijke Kerstmis en een Gelukkig Nieuwjaar - (hope I've got that right!!)

"Beste wensen"
