Firstly, I would like to offer my sincere apologies for the delay in submitting the show reports for both Novice & ‘A’ Classes; upon returning from Holland I was whisked away for 3 weeks caravanning around France, I hope you guys will forgive me.

It was a great honour and privilege to be asked to judge two classes for the obedience folk in Mijnsheerenlan, Holland. As well as the wonderful hospitality provided by Danielle de Jonge, her partner Paul and good friend Gwen they very kindly took us into Amstrerdam sight seeing; thank you for a lovely time.

Reflecting what Sue said, the weather was great; the venue superb and all those involved in ensuring the day ran smoothly did a brilliant job. My thanks also go to my two ring stewards, the scoreboard stewards and the stay team who did a faultless job all day.

What a wonderful time we had and here are the great teams who triumphed today…

Novice

1st Ellen Reijenga & Alliance de la Vie Banty’s Djinthy, NS Duck T Ret.
TEMP CLEAR, HF 1 ¾ RET ¼ REC ¼ HOL ¼. What a great round this team produced. I was over the moon to give you the red today and judging by the tremendous applauds you received when collecting your rosette it would seem your fellow competitors were extremely pleased for you too. Ellen works 2 Duck T Ret’s and both of them are a real credit to her training. Congratulations & Good luck in ‘A’, I am sure you’ll both do very well.

2nd Rose Dewulf & Bekkis yours Faitfully, BC.
TEMP CLEAR, HF 2 ¾ RET 1 ¼ REC CLEAR HOL 1 ½ . Another really good round and deserving of a future red rosette. Your heel free was the costly part of your performance today with just a little drifting off the leg to cause the marks however if you mirror your efforts from the heel on lead you will be walking the class. Well done and good luck for the future.

3rd Greet Vink & Kyrill von Berlare, WS.
TEMP CLEAR, HF 3 ½ RET ½ REC CLEAR HOL 2 ½ . Brilliant clear recall and only a half on the retrieve, Well done! Tightening up the heel work position so as not to cause the drifting and working on the halts would leave your next judge wondering what to mark. Good luck for the future.

4th Carola van Tilburg & Bo White van Tilburg, WS.
TEMP CLEAR, HF 2 ½ RET 1 REC ¾ HOL 2 ¼ . Another nice round with the odd turn and loss of position to account for the majority of marks. A great team effort, well done and good luck.

5th Yolande Hartman & Jitske, Kooikerhonde.
TEMP CLEAR, HF 1 ¾ RET ¼ REC 1 HOL 4. Such a shame you didn’t realise the tight lead in the HOL as your team work was winning material. Sort this minor handler error and your dog will take you through the classes no problem. Well Done and Good Luck!

6th Yolande Hartman & Bouncer, Kooikerhonde.
TEMP CLEAR, HF 4 RET ¾ REC CLEAR HOL 2 ¾ . Now then Yolande! 2 Rosettes that’s just greedy…lol ! Fantastic effort on your part training two dogs and being placed with both of them. Just some drifting to report in this round and a little anticipation on the RET but lovely attitudes from both dogs. Good luck with both dogs for the coming competitions.

7th Marja van Eck & Evita From Olion’s House, Standard Poodle.
TEMP CLEAR, HF 3 ¼ RET ¼ REC ½ HOL 3 ¾ . Oh ! the tight lead cost you in your HOL but aside from this you both produced a nice round today showing that your RET & REC are up there with the best. Good luck and well done on getting placed today.

I would like to add that it was most pleasing to see the amount of positive training methods adopted by the Dutch Handlers. In both Novice and A I gave the handlers the opportunity to reward their dogs and by heck they did! To a point that it put some of us british to shame. I have always promoted positive methods/rewards and encouraged others to engage in this bizarre concept, only, the novice I judged last in Britain produced just 2 handlers that were willing to go all out and rewards their dogs.

Class: A

1st Inekke Happee & Bright She Shall Be vd Wilbam, BC.
A REC ¾ HF 3 ¼ RET ¼ SCENT 1 ½ . Stunning round with only minor inaccuracies in the heelwork (inverting). Lovely attitude from this dog and an overall professional performance from this team. Congratulations on your win today and best of luck in the future!!

2nd Lucie v.d. Casteel & G.B. van Benvenidas Joy, BC.
A REC ½ HF 2 RET 4 ½ SCENT ¾ . Today could have been yours was it not for the 4 points given away to extra verbal cues on the RET! So sorry for you guys with such a beautiful round I am sure you will not have to wait too long for the red one comes your way. A pleasure to judge and good luck.

3rd Nicky Spengler & Elegant Maxel O’ the Little Lodge, Shet Sheep D.
A REC CLEAR HF 4 ¼ RET ¼ SCENT ¾ . Down stay was costly ( losing a futher 3 ¼ from total ) for this team today….how unfortunate when you look at the set exercises and overall a brilliant effort on the HF with mainly drifting position from the leg and wide turns that accounted for the marks. Well Done on your place today.

4th Marja van Eck & South’n Whites Sweet Surprise, Shet Sheep D.
A REC 1 HF 3 ¾ RET 1 ¾ SCENT 2 ¼ . Well done on your place today. I am sure just general tightening up is required especially on the turns but overall a nice round and lovely attitude from this team.

5th Rose Dewulf & Bekkis yours Faitfully, BC.
A REC ¾ HF 4 ¾ RET ½ SCENT 3 ½ . Consistent effort from this team well done getting 2nd in novice and 5th in ‘A’ ! Similar mistakes on the HF in both rounds and consistently good REC & RET in both. Scent may have been the issue today with 3 points lost for nipping 3 cloths taking the majority of your scent marks. Best of luck for the future, very well done!

6th Ellen Reijenga & Alliance de la Vie Banty’s Djinthy, NS Duck T Ret.
A REC ½ HF 6 ¼ RET ¾ SCENT 2 ½ . I bet your pleased with yourself …lol This team took 1st in Novice and 6th in A ! Plus, I must say that 2 ½ points were deducted for extra verbal cues to help the dog ( good on you ) My favourite team today ….watch this space!!!

7th Nicky Spengler & Dawnville High Hopes of Davy, Shet Sheep D.
A REC 1 ½ HF 6 RET 1 SCENT 1 ¾ . Not happy with 1 place in this class Nicky takes 3rd and 7th with her two fantastic dogs. Same faults as with your other dog Nicky , great set exercises but the heelwork costing the marks today. General tightening up of the position will put a stop to the marks lost for gaps near the leg. Well Done today winning two lovely rosettes and good luck for the future.

What a lovely atmosphere this venue produced. I enjoyed myself immensely and wouldn’t hesitate to accept an appointment again, thank you for the opportunity.
