Dutch Obedience Society Many thanks to Peter for the invitation to judge once again in Holland. The last time I judged here was at the championships in 2007 and it was good to be back. Thanks also to Ivonne and Peter for their wonderful hospitality, Gill and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in your company. The show venue was one I had not seen before and it was very impressive. A forward thinking local authority providing facilities for all sports with a good pavilion and excellent facilities for owners and dogs. In the next field to us was a gun dog working group which caused the odd problem with gunfire but nothing major. Fabulous setting. When we arrived the key to the container holding all the ring equipment did not fit but within minutes everyone had raided their car boots and we had three working rings and a stay ring all set up, great stuff. Class B Of the 13 teams entered nine chose to train their dogs which is absolutely fine with me. It meant that Krist work three times as hard as I did, so many thanks to him for his hard work. Results therefore are shorter than usual as only four places were awarded. 1st Helen Braak & QUIET-KUMA THE LOVELY WHITE SHEPHERD. This team really were in a class of their own today. This shepherd is extremely well trained and handled by Helen and I predict a very bright future. Their second B win, having won under Michelle at the championships two weeks previously, I am sure the third will not be far away. Very well done and good luck for the future with this dog and also your lovely collie. 2nd Anneke Hollemans & QUELLYANE BENVENIDA (BC). A costly sendaway spoilt what was otherwise a very good round. Well done. 3rd Martine Verhoeven & COMANCHERO OF THE TWO ROSES (Dobe). I have judged this team several times in the past and have to say that the improvement since last time is remarkable. Very attentive and motivated dog, handled very well by Martine. Sadly came to grief in the down stay but nonetheless very good. Well done. 4th Anneke Hollemans & QUEBEY’S BOY TWICE VAN BENVENIDA’S JOY (BC).
Class C Steward: Anne Marie Again in this class of the 19 entries 13 chose to train so the line up was shortened to six teams from the normal seven. It struck me that maybe everyone probably builds themselves up to a peak for the championships and then a big sigh and natural lull takes over for the first show afterwards. That would be a perfectly natural thing to happen but does in no way detract from the performance of the winning teams. 1st Mia Bosschaart & MAMAMIA’S TYKE (WS). Tyke is such a lovely boy and has served you well Mia. A little naughty on retrieve today but still a pleasure to watch and judge. Well done on this win and good luck for the future. 2nd Pleun v.d.Ster & THISISBLIZZ OF ALBION’S MARCH (BC). Much improved since I saw them last and produced a good round. The note on my score sheet says “Fabulous fast pace”. It was genuinely fast and incredibly accurate. Well done and good luck. 3rd Steven Vannieuwenhuyse & BYTCHEK ESQUIRE (BC). I remember being impressed with this team at the Crufts World Cup and I was not disappointed today. A very well schooled and handled dog. Missed positions in both HW and DC pushed them in this place from what would have otherwise have been a convincing win. Well done Steven and keep up the good work. 4th Rick v.Veeren & SEALIGHT FLASH OF LIGHTNING (BC). Again DC was very costly and the HW needs to be generally tidied up but well done on this place. 5th Greet Vink & KYRILL V. BERLAERE (BC). The last two dogs in the line up unfortunately failed scent but I am sure as soon as you remember your dog’s name you will be fine (vbg)!! Good to see the new string to your bow Greet, well done. 6th Angela Kroon & COLLIEWOOD BLUE EAGLE (WS). Angela is such a good handler and this her latest will go on, I have no doubt, to have lots of success. Well done and good luck for the future. Thanks of course go to all for their entries, to everyone involved in the organisation of the show and of course to Ed for his expertise in running the stay ring. Finally, I would mention that on the Sunday I was asked to present a Kennel Club Rules and Regulations seminar which attracted 20 delegates, all of whom passed the examination. Many congratulations to all who took part, it cannot have been easy doing a written exam in what is not your first language. Brilliant!! Richard Kebble
