Thank you to Lucie van de Casteele and the Dutch Obedience Society for the invitation to judge at one of their winter shows. It is always good to renew acquaintances and see the progress of the dogs judged on previous visits. Bleiswijk, a large flower market, is an indoor venue that can be rather noisy but certainly provides a good working surface and large ring areas.
A huge thank you to Lucie and Benny for welcoming Stella and I into your home and looking after us so well. This made the drive from home much shorter, a good thing for a novice overseas driver like me!
All the dogs are well motivated, although one or two bordering out of control with sheer enjoyment. During the day there were some good dogs doing good rounds, there were also some good dogs making silly mistakes, and also some handlers bringing the best from their dogs while others through their nerves getting the better of them made expensive handling errors.
The Novice dogs drawn early to work seemed most affected by the background noise of the movement of flower and plant laden trolleys as the work of the market continued nearby. Otherwise there were some good teams seen during the day. These were the most successful.
Novice
1st ARO. Cees Groen, NICE OF YOU TO COME BYE KEEN KITE, BC. A Super handsome black and white dog, very little mark in all exercises and then working even better in the runoff taking this win. Many congratulations.
2nd Jose van de Rande, SUNNY FROM THE MAGIC SUNSHINE, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. What a brilliant little dog, good heelwork position and very accurate set exercises. Just not quite so accurate in the runoff. Well done. I’m sure the win is yours on another day.
3rd Anja de Pagter, OLYMPIC EYES OFFA FROM LET’S BORDER. BC. This attractive red merle collie worked steadily just losing confidence a little on heel free. Boost his working stamina and more success with be yours.
4th Mirjam van de Brock, ZZ JOW, BC. Super retrieve and recall, very little to mark on heel on lead, but a few more errors crept into heel free resulting in this lower place.
5th Yolande Hartman, BOUNCER, Kooikerhoundje. Just a little bit wide in heelwork otherwise very good work.
6th Arlett Geenan, ION LAFS OFF V DAELENBROCK, Kerry Blue Terrier. Not a breed usually associated with obedience but this dog demonstrates how it can be done. Good recall and retrieve but losing points on turns in heelwork.
7th Rick van Veeren, SEALIGHT ITS A MAGIC MIRACLE, BC. Magic was not at her best today, with some very wide turns in heelwork losing most of the marks.
Class A
1st Gino Dewitt, MY SWEET DEVILS EYE ENCKE, BC. Simply stunning. A sensitive dog sympathetically handled to bring out the very best to make this convincing win. Very well done.
2nd Marianne van der Ster, AMAZING YODA OF ALBION’S MARCK, BC. A few wides in heelwork, but otherwise a high standard of work losing very little on all the other exercises.
3rd Danielle Stoutjesdijk, ENGY INGO VON DEN GANSEWIESEN, Entlebucher Sennenhand. This was a really keen and agile Swiss mountain dog. Heelwork was good but retrieve a little untidy.
4th Sandra Pierson, AKSO, BC. Various errors in all exercise, but nothing that cannot be improved to move this team higher in the line up.
5th Cees Groen, NICE OF YOU TO COME BYE KEEN KITE, BC. The dog lost very little but unfortunately a couple of inadvertent extra commands and a wandering left hand in heelwork lost points to push this team down a lower place.
6th Annemarie Ibelings, ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS PHOEBE, WS. This dog is so well named. Truly fabulous, heelwork was superb and would easily have pushed the winner for the top slot, but the handler’s left hand was just a bit too mobile in heelwork. I doubt this error will be repeated.
7th Timothy de Cleyn, BONO OF GERONIMO’S TRIBE, Gt Munsterlander. What a dog. Keen, accurate heelwork and strong set exercises. However this was another handler who gave away too many points through inadvertent extra commands.
