OBEDIENCE WEDSTRIJD TE KERKWIJK, HOLLAND
Sunday 21st March 2010
Firstly, I would like to give my very sincere thanks to Rick van Veeren for the invitation to judge at your show and for welcoming us into your home and looking after us so well during our stay. It was lovely to have the opportunity to drive around and see a little of your country and to go for a walk with the dogs. Not to mention the trip to the supermarket! You had thought of everything for us and my diet will begin when I have eaten the chocolate that we were presented with at the end of the show! Many thanks!
The show venue was one to turn the English competitor pea green with envy. A huge, ex farm, converted into a Dog Center. There are 10 large but varying sized training halls with heating and a non slip floor, a proper cafeteria, showers, acres of grass and car parking. With sponsorship from Royal Canin and an enormous amount of hard work by the owner Martin, (sorry, didn’t get surname) this place is just fabulous and hosts every kind of dog activity. There were two other events on when we were there but there was so much space for all. Indeed a privilege to visit and judge there.

CLASS A
Ring Steward: Guus Scholten Scoreboard: Paul van Dijk
25 entered 24 ran 13 training rounds
I would like to thank Guus for stewarding this class for me. He is very experienced and knowledgeable and ensured that the class ran like clockwork. Paul manned the scoreboard with great efficiency and had all the results ready at the end. You were both great company, thank you.
I was impressed with the motivation and energy of the dogs although this caused problems for some when things got a little over wound and the dogs failed to wait on the recall or took over a bit during the hw.
It was a little disappointing to have so many training rounds but they were largely well carried out and will surely benefit the progress of the dog.
1st Annemarie Ibelings ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS PHOEBE BC
Performed an Absolutely Fabulous round! A slight tendency to creep forward and a minor mouth of her dumbbell were the only faults in this round. I know you will go through the classes with ease and wish you lots of fun and lots of luck!
2nd José Flierman NICE OF YOU TO COME BYE BE CLEVER BC
Another superb round and very unlucky to meet the above. Just minor imperfections in hw mainly on turns. Well done!
3rd Gino DeWitte MY SWEET DEVIL’S EYE ENCKE BC
Enthusiasm cost a few points here sadly. A bit of a dippy bum and some losses of position. Set exercises excellent. Well done!
4th Cees Groen NICE OF YOU TO COME BYE KEEN KITE BC
I think perhaps that running early did not help this team. Lost for a handler error and some little signals slipped in too. Otherwise a very nice dog that would have easily been closer to the top spot. I wish you well for another day.
5th José van der Rande SUNNY FROM THE MAGIC SUNSHINE Cavalier King Charles
Sunny was on equal marks with Cees and Mitch but José declined to run off as he had already done well in Novice and was tired. A very considerate and sporting decision. Anyone who might think that collies are the best workers should watch little Sunny! If he hadn’t blown so many marks on scent he would have troubled the winner today. Very well done, you handled him beautifully too.
6th Henk Eekman BRITT DARA VAN ‘T OLDE SALLAND Duitse Herder
A little bit loose at times on the HW but the set exercises were good especially the recall which was costly for so many. Well handled.
7th Christina Decuypere JIPSINGER KAIPO Australian Shepherd
Kaipo anticipated his recall in a major way which was very expensive. This was a pity as the rest of the round had just minor faults and was very pleasing to watch. Good Luck!
CLASS C
Ring Steward : Vincent DeWilde Scoreboard: Hans Bilius Decoy: Martine van Geel
22 entered 22 ran 9 training rounds
A relative newcomer to the art of stewarding, Vincent did a fantastic job. There is so much to remember and do and you did it all! Well done and thank you. As a competitor myself, we all must remember to value our stewards. Without them giving up their day there would be no competition for us. Very few competitors in either class thanked their stewards today. Perhaps you don’t do it in Holland but a little appreciation goes a long way! And then you have a steward for another show!
What can I say about Hans….apart from my very sincere thanks! He helped me put finishing touches to the round then helped Vincent settle in and gave him numerous little tips and then sat down to run the scoreboard in a very efficient way-a gold label steward. I wanted to take him home!
All the dogs were very motivated with high energy. Sometimes handlers struggled to keep control and some very good dogs fell victim to anticipation and forward work. Always a risk with work of this calibre. I was impressed with all the handling throughout, neat, upright and in tune with your dogs. All of the dogs today would hold their own in a C in England.
As time was quite tight, I set a round that displayed a team’s ability to make neat, tight turns as well as a long stretch. My sendaway was diagonal to three cones with plastic tulips in them – I thought the tulips were a good idea in Holland but didn’t realise that the tulips were in Belgian colours…..oooops, sorry! DC was from the SA box and the ret was 6 milk bottle lids on a tie wrap.
1st Mia Bosschaart MAMAMIA’S TYKE WS
“Fab” I wrote on my scoresheet and it was fabulous. Very few errors. Tyke and Mia flowed round the ring calmly but with style and panache. It was a pleasure to give you a win today. Sorry you weren’t able to be at the presentation but thank you for coming to tell me you had to go home. This dog could easily add to the tally of tickets now in Holland!
2nd Angela Kroon COLLIEWOOD BLUE EAGLE WS
A huge cheer went up when Clooney completed his scent. I wasn’t sure why but apparently he has not put a whole round together for some time. I cant imagine why, he was superb and deserves to be collecting red cards! I hope I have brought you some luck!
3rd Guus Scholten COLLIEWOOD VELAZQUEZ GIOVANNI WS
Gio began with the most spectacular sendaway, followed by a clear DC. He was rather too vocal in all his other exercises which was very expensive and a great shame. As always, Guus handles him quietly and to very good effect. I wish you the very best of luck in your quest in making him an OB Ch, Surely deserved.
4th Rick van Veeren SEALIGHT FLASH OF LIGHTNING BC
Flash really put it all together today and Rick was justifiably delighted. Minor faults in hw and sendaway but a brilliant clear DC. Nice to see that he still enjoys his work so much despite being perhaps the senior in the class! Placed in very good company today. Well done.
5th Brigitte van Gestel TWICE AS NICE VAN BENVENIDA’S JOY BC
Although the hw mark was quite high this was largely due to some faults in ASSD. The slow pace was excellent and was what I look for……SLOW pace, Many were marked today for lack of pace definition. A dog should not really be able to trot during fast pace! Twizzle, however gave an excellent display. Well done.
6th Melissa Vercauter DEMMA OF THE ACTION FARM Tervuerense Herder
Needed to be a little tighter in hw today but very well handled. Well done.
7th Krist Crommen JAZZ IT UP BENVENIDA’S JOY BC
Lovely heelwork but a missed position in DC and a very untidy scent relegated this team today. Lack of pace definition also claimed some marks.
Thank you all for your entries and for inviting me to come to Holland. I wish you all the very best of luck at future shows with your lovely dogs.
