Date: 19/12/10
Place: Strijen
Class: Pre-Beginners t/m C
Judge: Kathleen Hood & Greta Killian |
Thanks to the Dutch Obedience Society for asking us both to judge at your Christmas show, especially to Trudy who provided our accomodation and Angela who accompanied us all the weekend. Your hospitallity is first class, you made us feel very welcome (and your dogs)and we felt completely at ease and at home in your company. The weekend was far from uneventful. It must have been the worst weekend for European travel this year.First disaster was the cancellation of our flight on Friday afternoon but a quick dash from the departure lounge to the airline desk secured us a flight on the Saturday morning. Fortunately the Dutch Society had lost their usual show venue and the new venue was only available on Sunday. We got there but was unsure when we would return. Trudy was very surprised when I telephoned to say we had arrived but also very grateful as the show could still be held. All Saturday afternoon and evening competitors and stewards were phoning to say they could not get to the venue due to the road conditions. We set out on Sunday not knowing if it would be a show or a training/fun day. Surprisingly several people had struggled to get there through the most appalling conditions. There were several competitors in each class so it was decided to hold the show. With so few competitors Greta and myself judged and stewarded all classes and not all the prizes were awarded due to competitors wanting to train their dogs or turned their round into training when their dog stoppeed working.
RESULTS:
PRE-BEGINNERS - Greta Killian
1st Sam Turner with Nice of you to come bye Secret Love BC. Well deserved
Winner.
2nd Patricia v.d. Arend-v.d.Bulk with Montsjaar Sky's the Limit Australian
Shepherd.Unfortunately the dog did not like stays and broke both sit and
Down. Better luck next time.
BEGINNERS - Kathleen Hood
1st Sam Turner with Nice of you to come bye Secret Love BC. Winner of both
Pre-Beg and Beginners, slight inattention at the beginning of the Heelwork
Lost you most of your points but once the attention was regained his work
Superb. Well done.
2nd Gerda v.d.Pluijm with Bobby Bernese Mountain Dog. I saw this dog and
Handler training before the show and thought they would be a team
Difficult to beat but he was a different dog in the ring, so was the
Handler (tense, nervous). Obviously the dog sensed the handlers tension.
Relax and enjoy and your dog will do the same.
NOVICE - Greta Killian
1st Gerda v.d.Pluijm with Bobby Bernese Mountain Dog. Well done you relaxed
More and your dog worked better than in Beginners. Using the same ring
And having the same people judging and stewarding may have helped but you
Took note of our advice and it worked. You both looked more like the team
We saw training before the show.
2nd Barjo Blom-Schaafsma with Best Clever Cato of Clover Corner BC. Only one
Point between you and the winner. You were at a disadvantage because
Gerda had been in the ring prior to this class and also done stays
Before these stays. Unfortunately your sit stay was costly, better luck
Next time.
CLASS A - Greta Killian
1st Helen Braak with Maradonar Echo of Light BC. Very steady dog,
Well handled. Clear retrieve and more accurate heelwork clinched the red
Card for you. Well done
2nd Anneke Hollemans with Quebey's Boy Twice van Benvenida's Joy BC
3rd Martine Verhoeven with Fouzywouzy from Imkes Friends BC
CLASS B - Kathleen Hood
1st Martine Verhoeven with Fouzywouzy from Imkes Friends BC. Was a clear
Winner of this class, losing only 12.5 points. Heelwork was the most
Accurate and overall standard outshone the others. Well done.
2nd Helen braak with Maradonar Echo of Light BC Having really messed up the
Sendaway you must have been pleased to be awarded the blue card. The class
Is never over untill all exercises are completed and your dog did a good
Scent.
3rd Brigitte v. Gestel with Joyful Life v. Benvenida's Joy BC Was in second
Place before scent but only dropped one place because the following dog
Also failed scent.
4th Anneke Hollemans with Quellyanen Benvenida BC Another scent failure, such
A lot of marks to lose when you have had a good round. Better luck next
Time.
CLASS C - Kathleen Hood
1st Martine Verhoeven with Comanchero of the Two Roses Dobermann. The journey
Of 2 hours in terrible conditions was well worth it today. You were so
Thrilled to be the winner, I was so pleased to award you the prize. It is
Always nice to see a different breed in the obedience ring and he was a
Delight to judge.
2nd Trudy Groenenboom with Colliewood Crazy Legs Guinness BC. Only 1/2 point
Behind the winner and could have been well in front if only he would be
quiet. He is so excited to be working, such an energetic stylish dog but
cannot control his enthusiasm and must bark, even in scent. Well done.
3rd Helen Braak with Quiet-Kuma The Lovely White Shepherd GSD. Nice to see a
GSD working C, well controlled and stylish but weht deaf in DC.
4th Brigitte v.Gestel with Twice as Nice Twizzle v.Benvenida's Joy BC. Was
far infront of the rest before scent and bought in the decoy putting her
from 1st to 4th. Always next time, must have been so dissapointed.
This must have been the smallest show we have judged but the atmosphere was so friendly and relaxed it was a wonderful experience for both of us and a good start to the Christmas week. Yes, we did get back to Birmingham Sunday night even though it was almost midnight.
It was Greta's first time abroad for 30 years and dispite all the difficulties and the short time she was there, she thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Many thanks to committee and competitors. Happy New Year and wishing you success in 2011.
