Judges reports for OBEDIENCE WEDSTRIJD TE AXEL Open show
Held at Axel, Netherlands on Saturday 7th May 2016
First of all we would like to thank Hanka for the invitation to judge at this very well organised show and also many thanks to Frans & Jutta for your hospitality and putting us up over the weekend.
We set out on Friday by train from St Brieuc in Brittany to Antwerp station changing stations in Paris. We arrived at Montparnasse (SW Paris) with just 45 minutes to get across Paris to Gare du Nord (North) Usually the Metro is the best way but Google suggested to leave at least an hour for that trip so we decided to get a taxi. Luckily we had Lewis Hamilton at the wheel and although it was Friday around 6 pm in the Paris rush hour (we had never seen so many bicycles!!) we arrived at the station with just 3 minutes to spare! Phew!
Show day dawned bright and dry and very hot (30 degrees) We were taken to and from the venue, which was a sports centre set in lovely surroundings, by Tiny. (Thank you Teeny Tiny xx)

Ring Steward - Sandra Pierson Scoreboard - Paul Van Dijk
1st - Guus Scholten with DANESWAY DUET (Gucci) - Working Sheepdog – Lovely round. A bit of bum waggling to start but soon settled down (that was Gucci!). Spot on SA, Clear DC & Ret. 1 point lost in stays and 2.5 in scent made no difference to the end result. Many congratulations.
2nd – Angela Kroon with ABSOLUTE GROOVY (Groovy) -Working Sheepdog – A very good round with a few marks lost on most exercises. Well deserved second place.
3rd – Mia Bosschaart with ABFAB YUKON (Yukon) – Working Sheepdog – Two positions in HW were costly today. Clear DC and Ret and finished with a good scent. Well done.
4th – Elly Kooyman with ROUND ROBIN GHALIB (Jamie) – Border Collie – A bit of noise in HW and 2 missed DC positions was the problem here. Otherwise a very good performance.
5th - Isabella Van Damme and ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS BIENE (Biene) – Working Sheepdog – Just bits and pieces on the round and was in contention but lost 11 in stays! What a shame! Surely the red rosettes will soon come.
6th – Anda de Baerdemaeker with FJURDYHOEVE JUSTVIVID (Vivid) Border Collie – Again just bits and pieces in HW but a missed ASSD position and 2 missed in DC together with a naughty scent relegated you to this end of the line up.
Just a special mention for my ring steward, Sandra Pierson, who told me this was her first time stewarding a C – well you were PERFECT!! Thank you Sandra x
We had a really great day and were both pleasantly surprised at the overall very high standard of the competitors. A special mention for Guus Scholten who won A, B and C today. Brilliant!
Each class had a full running order so we weren’t kept waiting at all. Some competitors came from Belgium and Germany so it was really an international event! The show ran very smoothly and had a lovely friendly atmosphere despite the heat!
A big thank you to all the show helpers, especially Hans, who not only organised the stays but helped with just about everything else!! A huge thank you to our ring stewards and scorers who were all brilliant and, of course, to the competitors for cheerfully accepting our decisions. (Also special thanks to Elly Kooyman who introduced us to the “special” cherry flavoured Kriek beer!!! Wish we could get it in France.)
